Who are we?

Since pioneering the first mass-produced scrum machine in 1980, Rhino has been at the forefront of innovation and technology in the world of rugby training equipment, accessories, match and training balls.
The Powerhouse Scrum Machine, a concept created by our founder and former head of rugby at Dulwich College, Tim Francis, started it all when it broke new ground in the 1980s, and was first used by England in the 1981 Five Nations Championship, a partnership with the national side that still continues to this day.

Today, the same core values of quality, innovation, performance and excellence run through every Rhino product delivered at every level of the game from minis to seniors, men and women, grassroots to elite, all around the world.

Beyond contact

Rhino’s constant development has also extended to match and training rugby balls, delivering them at the highest level to 80 rugby-playing countries throughout Asia Rugby and Rugby Europe, as well as Major League Rugby (America and Canada), and Sudamérica Rugby (South and Central America). We are the second biggest provider of rugby balls in the world, covering every level of the game, and we’re also the creator of the first-ever range of recycled rugby balls.

Rhino is your rugby life partner. We’re there by your side through every stage of your life in the game: from the first time you pick up a ball, to the tags you wear in mini rugby, the first bag you tackle, the first scrum machine you hit, and the teamwear and protection clothing you wear through it all. When your playing days come to an end, we’re there for you as a coach with every coaching tool you could ever want, or as a committee member, providing everything a rugby club needs from floodlights and post protectors to medical kits and ball pumps.

Home of the Scrum

Rhino has always been the Home of the Scrum, and our machines are used by international sides the world over, from New Zealand and England to Wales and France, with the British & Irish Lions having used Rhino for the past four tours. Our range is unsurpassed, including junior scrum machine Rhino Rebel 3, the world’s best-selling Premiersled, the Dictator and one-man Solo Sled, used by England, and the Powahouse, used by Wales. Our scrum machine pioneers include the likes of ex-All Black scrum coach Mike Cron and ex-British & Irish Lion Adam Jones.

We Are Contact

Rhino was also a pioneer in hit shields, tackle bags, specialist breakdown equipment and other contact accessories, making us the No.1 provider of contact equipment in the world. We’ve supplied five Rugby World Cups with hit shields, tackle bags and scrum machines, not to mention post protectors, flags and poles, and we’ve been official suppliers to England, Wales, France and the British & Irish Lions, as well as top club sides including Bath and Cardiff.

Rugby balls
Rhino has one of the widest range of match, training and specialist rugby balls on the market, including the world’s first range of eco balls, made from up to 70% of recycled rubber. The range covers sizes 3-5, and goes from the entry level Zephyr to the elite-level Vortex Recycled, as used in the 2023 Varsity Matches at Twickenham.
In the past five years, Rhino has confirmed its place at the top level of rugby as official match ball supplier to both Asia Rugby and Rugby Europe, meaning 80 of the world’s rugby playing countries use Rhino for international competition.
The Rhino range also includes specialist balls including the half-ball Reflex and a series of training balls that includes weighted, imbalanced, light and gripless.
